The Horniman Museum.

To learn more about our current topic of The Americas, we went on visit to the Horniman Museum.

While we were there we got to look at real artefacts from Native America.  We looked at shoes that would have been worn by people in the Plains and gloves worn by the Inuit people who lived in the colder areas around The Great Lakes.

A lot of us enjoyed trying on a replica of a Native American war bonnet.

We even got to look at real snow shoes which were worn by Native Americans and lots more interesting artefacts were passed around for us to look at.

This picture is actually made of sand and tells a Native American myth.

As we had some time to look around the rest of the museum we headed to the Natural History section which featured real animals which had been stuffed.  We even had our photograph taken with the Walrus!

  1. Hi,
I'm Jack from NGPS and we went on an outstanding camp to Sovereign Hill, this was at the start of term 3. This is the main places gold was discoverd in Australia. On the first day we went to the Ballarat Art Museum and performed a re-enactment of the Eureka Debate. On the second day we began the school, during the school we had to dress up as 1850's Australian children. We then had to attend one of two schools avalibe that were from the 1800's. We had to stay in charector even when walking around. We were a part of the living museum. Personally my favortie part was the Blood on the Southern Cross show. This was all about the goldfeilds, and the murder/manslaghter of James Scobie.
We all enjoyed our trip to Sovereign Hill and we will never forget it!

  3. Hi Mrs Gallagher,
Your museum trip sounds like fun! I think the best school trip I've been on was the Melbourne trip in Grade 5. We planned the excursion all by ourselves (in groups). My group went to Federation Square, Chinatown (and the Chinese Museum), Royal Exhibition Building, Lygon Street and Queen Victoria Market. We walked all the way. My feet were very sore at the end.
I would like to know what your favourite school excursion was.

    8. Hi,
I think the best camp (an excursion were you stay a night or two) I've been on was the camp that we had about 12 weeks ago-Sovereign Hill (which is in Ballarat). It is kind of like an open-air museum about the 1850s gold rush, expect that there are people dressed as characters from the 1850s gold rush, and you get to interact with almost anything. You can go down old gold mines, play bowling with wooden balls and lots of other things. There is even a sound and light show about the revolutionary 20 minute battle of the Eureka Stockade. It is at night, and since it was winter, we were freezing! However, I think the best part was being able to be part of an 1850s school. We got to dress up in old fashioned clothes, play with old toys, get an education (yes, we got work on camp) and so much more. I think everyone enjoyed it!

    9. Hi BHPS,
It sounds like you really enjoyed the Holmbury school trip. We only get a camp in Grade 2, Grade 4 and Grade 6. I would like to know why you enjoyed the trip so much, and which part of the trip you enjoyed the most (and why).
      Hope you reply,
      Laura NGPS
